BOSS Bears

Guided black bear hunts in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan

The application period for Bear Licenses in the Michigan Lottery is May 1 through June 1 so be aware of those dates to apply for your tag.  Michigan uses a preference points system to award bear licenses.  Hunters receive a preference point each year they are unsuccessful in drawing a harvest tag and applicants with the largest number of points are issued licenses first.

Bear drawing success rates vary by bear management unit (bmu) and hunt date. An applicant with no preference points may be drawn for a hunt that's in low demand, while a unit in higher demand may require 5 or more points to draw a harvest tag.

Applicants may apply for a harvest tag or a preference point only, banking the point for future drawings. Only one point is awarded in a given year.

For more specific information on bear hunting in Michigan please see the MI DNR site at http://www.michigan.gov/dnr  On the left panel click on 'Hunting', then 'Big Game', then 'Black Bear'.

It is recommended that you wear all camouflage clothing and firearms hunters are required to wear one 'hunters orange' clothing item.

A good flashlight, a bottle of scent killer and camo raingear is also highly recommended.
